WAILS smart buoy: remote scientific monitoring
The WAILS smart buoy, also called the Scientific Buoy, brings power and connectivity where the sea offers no infrastructure. It is the floating base that lets our underwater cameras and sensors work continuously, far from the coast, and send images and data to the platform without cables from shore.
Solar power and connectivity beyond the grid
Solar panels recharge the buoy’s batteries, while a watertight box houses the electronics that manage power and data transmission. The system stays active day and night, even at remote sites, and can be fully controlled remotely through the WAILS platform.
Smart buoy as an add-on for cameras and sensors
The buoy is not a stand-alone product: it is an add-on that works with WAILS underwater cameras and environmental sensors. Power, autonomy, number of connected devices and mooring system are defined case by case, according to the site, depth, sea exposure and monitoring goals.
Smart buoy for marine protected areas, research and ports
The smart buoy is the ideal solution when you need to observe the seabed far from the coast or where there is no power:

Tested at sea at Argentario
In September 2026 we installed a scientific buoy off Talamone, above the Casa dei Pesci underwater museum, together with the University of Siena. The buoy powers a WAILS camera on the seabed and sends images to the platform every day. Read the news about the Argentario installation.
