In addition to fixed monitoring stations, WAILS provides an operational underwater drone for inspection, monitoring and documentation activities in marine and lake environments. It is the ideal tool when it is necessary to reach a specific point, quickly assess a situation or document an area not covered by installed cameras. The drone is provided together with our technical support for underwater operations: the activity is carried out without the customer having to arrange equipment, resources or specialized personnel.
Inspection of submerged infrastructure
The underwater drone allows the inspection of bridge piers, docks, pipelines, cables, artificial reefs and mooring structures without putting an operator in the water. The footage is captured at close range and provides the actual condition of the structure: encrustations, collapses, localized damage, presence of foreign objects. It is a repeatable inspection method over time, allowing the conditions of the same structure to be compared months later and enabling maintenance interventions to be planned only where they are truly needed.
Seabed monitoring and surveying with an underwater drone.
On the seabed, the drone allows the documentation of Posidonia meadows, sediments, excavation areas and zones affected by construction works or laying activities. The images collected during surveys complement the data from fixed cameras and make it possible to reconstruct a complete overview of the area, even across large surfaces or locations far from the installation point. The acquired videos can also be used to create a 3D model of the surveyed environment, useful for surveys, comparisons and technical presentations.
Fewer dives, greater operational safety thanks to the underwater drone.
Every dive involves risks, preparation time and costs. With the underwater drone, many inspection and documentation activities can be carried out from the surface, reducing the number of dives and limiting the involvement of divers to situations where it is truly necessary. The operator monitors the footage in real time and decides on the spot whether to investigate further, move to another area or conclude the operation: less time is spent underwater and work is carried out with greater safety margins, especially in busy areas or low-visibility conditions.

The material collected during drone operations is integrated into the same platform used for fixed monitoring. Photos and videos remain archived and accessible remotely, can be analyzed with our artificial intelligence tools and exported as certified reports. In this way, an inspection does not remain just a file on a disk, but becomes documentation that can be used for technical assessments, progress reports, audits or research activities.

The drone does not replace fixed stations; it complements them. Installed cameras provide continuous observation, timelapse and automatic alerts over a defined area; the drone is deployed when it is necessary to take a closer look, cover an unmonitored point or document a specific event. It is a combination that works in marine protected areas, underwater construction sites, port areas, offshore infrastructure, archaeological sites and aquaculture facilities.
