Forbes Italia Covers WAILS
WAILS in Forbes Italia: Enzo Argante writes “The Mediterranean becomes intelligent: the technology that protects cetaceans from collisions with ships”, a feature on WAILS, the technology developed by TimelapseLab that combines high-resolution cameras, hydrophones, environmental sensors and artificial intelligence.
When it detects a cetacean, the system cross-checks images and sounds, verifies the data and alerts the crew in real time; at the end of operations it produces reports with detections, GPS coordinates and route history. In the Pelagos Sanctuary about 3,500 “near misses” are estimated every year. The article quotes Damiano Bauce and Federico Franceschetti and the next uses: marine protected areas, ports, offshore, underwater construction sites, aquaculture and underwater archaeological sites.
